Geotechnical Investigation

Soil data acquisition for offshore engineering design: Piston Corer sampling with sliding deployment table, CPT testing and laboratory analysis — with in-house deployment systems ready for immediate mobilization.

Geotechnical Investigation — HPS Offshore

Service scope

  • Piston Corer sampling — undisturbed in-situ sediment cores.
  • CPT (Cone Penetration Test).
  • Laboratory soil analysis.
  • Soil characterization campaigns and offshore foundation studies.
  • Geotechnical risk assessment and marine stratigraphic investigation.

Piston Corer system with sliding table

  • Recovers high-quality cores preserving soil stratigraphy — critical for advanced geotechnical analysis.
  • Sliding deployment table that eases launch and recovery on deck, improving operational safety and reducing operation times.
  • Made up of counterweights, cables, tubes, A-frame and davits.
  • Ideal for clayey, soft and sandy soils.

In-house deployment systems

  • A-Frame — stern-mounted structural frame for lifting, deploying and recovering subsea equipment; guaranteed stability even in adverse environmental conditions.
  • Davits — auxiliary lifting systems for side deployment of acoustic sensors and tow-fish equipment, with no interference with the A-Frame.
  • OTSM pole (over-the-side mount) — mounting of USBL sensors, multibeam echosounders and geophysical acquisition equipment from the side of any vessel, with minimal hydrodynamic interference.

Availability

  • Equipment available immediately, maintained under strict inspection programs at our marine operations base.
  • Mobilization from Ciudad del Carmen — adaptable to aluminum or steel vessels.

Frequently asked questions

What is the advantage of the Piston Corer with sliding table?

It recovers undisturbed sediment cores that preserve soil stratigraphy — critical for advanced geotechnical analysis — and the sliding table speeds up launch and recovery on deck, with improved safety and shorter operation times.

Piston corer or CPT — which one do I need?

They complement each other: the corer delivers the physical sample for laboratory testing; the CPT measures in-situ soil resistance continuously. The combination underpins offshore foundation design.

What vessel does the campaign require?

Our in-house deployment systems (A-Frame, davits and OTSM pole) adapt to aluminum or steel vessels, and mobilize from Ciudad del Carmen.

What projects call for a geotechnical investigation?

Platform and structure foundations, pipeline routes, geotechnical risk assessment and marine stratigraphic investigation — laboratory analysis included.
